Infertility and Pregnancy Loss Counseling
Infertility
Infertility is like a paper cut. Just when it starts to heal, the wound is reopened and fresh pain sears through you; another period, another miscarriage, another month gone. There is often a deep sense of loss, shame, and grief. Never have you felt so alone.
Sometimes we blame ourselves for waiting too long (putting parenting off until our 30s, after our career and/or marriage has been established) or for terminating pregnancies in the past. Sometimes we blame our partner for not being ready or stable sooner. We’re mad, sad, and everything in between.
Trying month after month, having sex for procreation instead of pleasure or connection, can take a toll on you and your marriage. Partners often grieve differently and can feel disconnected during this process. You are not alone. Many individuals and couples struggle with infertility. I am here to support you and your partner in this trying time.
Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss
For the woman going through it, an unsuccessful pregnancy often represents the loss of a child. You’ve begun to imagine a life for that child – sometimes a name or a personality – and how you will raise the kid. Now that dream has been painfully stripped from you both emotionally and physically. There often is less community support for pregnancy loss than the death of a child even though the grief is just as great. In emotional and isolating times, we sometimes need support to mend ourselves.
Abortion
Choosing to have an abortion is often a very difficult decision, one that sometimes we’re pressured into by loved ones or life situations. Sometimes that decision and loss can stick with us. We can be filled with shame and regret and need a safe space to process this. I provide a non-judgmental space for women to process that loss and move forward with their lives after having an abortion.
